We don't need the box springs right now or the bed frame - nor do we have a place to store it.
I was looking at Sears and it says with all their mattresses you must purchase the box springs and frame. I seem to recall this being the case when I tried to replace the mattress on a platform bed once too - years and years ago.
So where does one buy just the mattress?

American Mattress and such places. We purchsed a twin mattress for a day bed and there was no hassle on having to buy anything else. GL!

a lot of specifically mattress stores probably do this all of the time. making a few phone calls to some would probably give you a good idea of who is pleasant to work with.

I don't recall buying a frame when we bought our mattress at Sears 4 years ago...
I think most furniture showrooms have a mattress section - some of them should be able to help!
Sams, as others have mentioned, is also a great place!
Good Luck!

We bought JUST a mattress at Rockaway Bedding, one of those mattress only stores. On the same day we went to several other places and they all were willing/able to sell just the mattress. Be sure to beat them down on price, those places are such scams. I hate shopping for a mattress as much as a car, the negotiations always make my skin crawl.

Thanks everyone! I looked at Sears first but all over their website they say you have to buy the frame and box springs as well. :/ So maybe that's a new thing. I tried to compare prices on-line to some local furniture places but NOBODY has their prices on-line unless they're also an on-line retailers. I didn't know they would negotiate on prices! I wish I had known that when we bought our bed. It sucks and it was 1500. My backaches every morning when I get up from it. Sam's does have nice mattress for decent prices but the "decent" price for a good quality mattress was more than what DH wanted to pay. So after much heated discussion we checked to see if Wal-mart had mattresses on-line and they do. So that's what we got. It's a cheapie from Wal-mart but I think it'll work out better for the short term and OK for the long term. (It'll be a spare mattress in case we have more company than our guest bed can accommodate.) Can you believe they'll ship a mattress for 14.97? I find it really hard to believe!

The mattress arrived today!
LOL I was kidding when I said I hope we don't have to blow it up when it arrives and I wasn't far off.
It's a foam mattress and what they did was take all the air out of it. So it was bundled in this really tightly wrapped package. As soon as you puncture it - it starts inflating back up! LOL
At least I didn't have to blow it up.
It says it can take 48 hours to get to its full size but it can be used immediately.
Too funny. When I heard that air rush in when I punctured it I thought wow! I am eating my words here!
It's surprisingly comfortable considering it is foam.
TOO FUNNY! It IS a blow up mattress - just not what I had envisioned when I was joking!

I don't know that I would want to sleep on this sort of mattress all the time. I don't know what I did specifically to get the 14.97 shipping. I ordered a full sized mattress and that was the cheapest shipping they had. www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3380079It's not bad but it's not a normal mattress because it's all foam.

wow, looks like a tempurpedic. i hope your back feels better!
we just got a new set at the end of the year, and it's great. we spent a whole lot more, of course! lol we got a simmons beautyrest with a huge pillowtop that includes two inches of memory foam. So far, so good.
We know it's an investment for a long time, so we treated ourselves for our fifth anniversary and Christmas.
