Hi all, My name is Karen. I'm 27, TTC, and just found out about PCOS yesterday. I went to my doctor to find out why I wasn't getting pregnant, and after a thorough exam and a lot of questions, she told me that she thinks I have PCOS and sent me to the net to find out what that meant.
I am going to see a specialist soon to have the diagnosis confirmed and...I guess begin treatment, whatever that means....right now my biggest concern is getting pregnant! I am very concerned that most of the treatments I have heard about so far seem to exclude women who are ttc or pregnant. I have heard that the only way for women with PCOS to lose weight is a low-carb diet, but women who are ttc and prego aren't supposed to cut carbs! I have heard that the hormones they give to women with PCOS are also off limits to pregos, so how am I supposed to get treatment and get pregnant?
Anyone who has any answers, I would be glad to hear from you...thank you

Hi! #wave# Welcome! www.inciid.org/faq.php?cat=infertility101&id=2check out the PCOS FAQ on the Inciid site for answers to i think most of your questions. regarding treatment, specifically for TTC - your doctor will most likely start you on metformin. You can Low Carb safely now before you conceive. It won't do any damage for future pregnancy. once you conceive, then you could talk to your ob about your diet. the metformin is an insulin sensitizing medication. If the metformin doesn't work by itself, most doctors will start you on Clomid in addition to the metformin. there are other medications that they use if there are still problems with conception. I don't think i've answered all your questions, but i'm sure others will. good luck!

Welcome!
Pretty much what Ornah said. Low carb while TTC is fine! Good luck with your new doc! Check out the ttc forum when you get a chance.

Welcome! Low carbing until you get pregnant is fine, as others have said.
I lost my weight (42 pounds got me ovulating) by switching to healthy carbs - whole grains, brown rice, and whole wheat pastas. I had to give up sugar and potatoes, but I SWEAR it isn't so bad after a month or so. An added bonus is that you can stick with a healthy carb diet while pregnant! I follow sugar busters, but south beach is another good one.
