Ok so...today was a rushed day. I started to make the icing today and then realized that my "butter flavor crisco" wasn't gonna work since it wasn't white (didn't think of this until I was already adding all the damn sugar)....so anyway I figured oh well no one else is gonna eat/see it besides us(and some mommies ) so if it is a little off-white/yellow i can deal with it. So I am mixing and the darn mixer breaks...by that time i'd had enough and just threw the damn thing and all the icing into the trash. So I figure I'll make the cake...and then realize i need the mixer SO i use the chocolate boxed cake I had in the pantry since last year(or early 2005) and my oven totally sucks not to mention i don't care for chocolate cake and I think it came out a little dry but the middle was uncooked so that is why i had to put it in a little longer...it also cracked SO....I take it out of the over and *try* to cut the bump off as much as possible...i don't know why the hell they say to leave it in the pan...it is really hard to cut it off that way! So I did that and i should have tried to cut more off but it'll do. So then we left and went and had ds's pix done with my niece and went to my g'rents for dinner etc. and get home and ds gets to bed by 9:45 (after slicing his pinky a little on a can he stole from the recycling bin dh was taking outside ) and then smashing his head on a shelf in the pantry throwing himself a tantrum when I took it away. I didn't realize he was cut until we were reading books...it was minor..but still a cut...and it was bleeding a little but he will never keep a band-aid on So anyway...after i got him down I started making the icing and it was a lot better experience. BTW- I got a mixer from my g'ma and she gave me her crisco too (but we *DID* forget it and had to turn around 3mins from her house to go back and get it ). SOOOO...I follow the recipe for the icing(3 cups) and then i get to the decortaing instructions and it says I need 4.5 cups and then I am just like W-T-F??!!!!!!!!!!!! Screw it....3 will just have to do So....I tinted the icing and forgot how light the grey should be so it is not much lighter than the black but oh well. And I am not gonna do the yellow stars around the cake because it does't lay flat on the bottom I did the best I could with the "ice smooth".....i dunno how they hell anyone can get it smooth unless it is like the icing you use for sugar cookies (really thin) but I did my best. Here is a pic. of it now....It was midnight by the time i finished all the icing and icing smooth and cleaning up,,,,the rest will have to wait until tomorrow morning even though I wanted the cake for the morning when he woke up but oh well
