...for $50 at Walmart after Thanksgiving. So, it's still in the box and I don't even know where to begin. Any ideas? I have a week off next week to experiment with it.

You bought a sewing machine for no particular reason?
Does your daughter have any sorts of toys that are like small things but she has a lot of them? You could make some drawstring bags to keep them in. I have made bags for my boy's matchbox cars and train stuff.
If that sounds good I will make a stab at giving you directions. It's pretty easy and you can use whatever material to suit the toy... like the bag for his matchbox cars has volkswagen beetles on it... and I am going to get some Thomas material to make him a new train bag soon as his collection is rather outgrowing the old one (it's a fall leaves print, just some material I had left over from a dress I made...)

Have you ever sewn before? I hadn't touched a sewing machine in YEARS and then I jumped right in and made Eric's sheets and all that stuff. I would recommend taking my approach if it's been awhile, and start with simple square things before you try putting together a dress or something for DD.
RD - That is a GREAT idea!! We have so many Little People laying all over the place, it never occured to me. Lord knows I have enough fabric left over from the sheet project. Too bad I've said no more new projects until I get Eric's room wallpapered. LOL

Runner, I like the idea of making bags for Emma's toys. She's about to get a crap load of toys for Christmas and it would be nice to have some way of sorting them and keeping them somewhat neat. Leann, I have sewed in the very far past. I've been wanting to get a machine to try my hand at craftiness again. I'm really wanting to make a tshirt quilt, but I think I should refresh my skills with something easy first. Maybe I could make some pillows? I need to go get some fabric first - that would help the process along.

Tina, I'm annoyed that it's so easy for you! I bought a Singer, supposedly "easy-thread" machine last year, tried it once, and threw it into a closet. It's definitely not easy-thread. The darned thread tangled and pulled and made a huge mess without going through the fabric.

lol oh goodness you done soemthing wrong lol. you got to make sure you have thread on the bobbin and put it in the bottom thingy. lol then make sure that the bottom string comes up thru that way you have 2 strings hanging out then just sew. lol. yep after i got my sewing maching i had a quilt done with in 4 days lol. i just got thru making anther just a few days ago. let me see if i can go take a picture of it real fast.

Wow, Tina, you were a busy woman! I finally got my sewing machine out this week and so far, I've made two jumpers, two drawstring bags, and a diaper bag. I really want to make a t-shirt quilt, but I have to catch up on my scrapbooking before I do any more sewing projects.

Tina~Those are very nice quilts! Kristina~Have you made anything new lately? I got a sewing machine for a gift about 3 years ago and I have gotten a few things made with it. Here are some of my completed projects: (Sorry I don't have any pics ) Huge throw pillows for the living room, doilies and matching curtain tie backs, too many sets of curtains to name and little winter coats for my dogs (only had two at that time). I was trying to make a quilt but kinda gave up on it because I was constantly working on it and not getting anywhere. I think it had to do with the fact that I was using too many different types of material instead of just one type. My friend is having a little girl so now I am thinking of trying to make her some dresses if possible. And those drawstring bags sound like a great idea!

Angie, the dress I made for Emma was surprisingly easy. I thought it would be a serious challenge, but it actually wasn't nearly as difficult as I was anticipating.

I really want to get a sewing machine, maybe when the baby comes and we move - I'll have more space then...
